Rollerworld Event FAQs

Everything you need to know about the Rollerworld Foundation and the events we host in and around Colchester, Essex, UK. 

RollerCode

  1. Our Rollercode is included in our terms and conditions. Everyone that enters Rollerworld must abide by the Rollercode:
 
Skates
  1. No dirty, damaged, oiled skates, skates with dangerous axels or skates with floor marking wheels or stoppers
  2. No aggressive inline skates
  3. All quad skates must have 2 good toe stops or jam plugs
  4. All skates are checked for rink-worthiness
  5. If your skates are not up to these standards on entry or on the rink you will have to repair, replace or hire new skates.
  6. No entry or exit is permitted on skates
 
Dress Code
  1. Recommended Smart/Casual
  2. No loose items of clothing including but not limited to hats & jumpers tied around your waist on the rink
  3. No offensive clothing
  4. All shoes, coats, bags etc must be locked in lockers
  5. large bags will not be permitted into the venue

Entry

  1. We reserve all rights of admission
  2. No pass-outs or re-admission
  3. Under 14’s (18’s for relaxed sessions) must be accompanied by a paying adult (18+) at all times in the venue
  4. A participating or non-participation ticket is required for entry for all activities
  5. We conduct security searches on entry to the venue as part of our commitment to keep our customers safe. Refusal of a bag or personal search will result in refusal of entry.

When Inside

  1. This venue has steps and ramps
  2. Smoke and flashing light effects are used during skating sessions
  3. No professional or flash photography without the prior consent of Rollerworld management
  4. No phones or listening devices on the rink
  5. No swearing or anti-social behaviour
  6. No smoking, E-cigarettes or similar devices inside Rollerworld

Food & Drink

  1. No food or drink can be brought into Rollerworld
  2. Medical exceptions to this rule can only be made with a medical note where there is no alternative available in Rollerworld
  3. Drinking water fountains are available
  4. No Chewing gum anywhere inside Rollerworld
  5. Over 18’s only in the RollerBar (Challenge 25) – No excessive drinking

CCTV

  1. CCTV is in 24 hour operation
  2. Any incidents must be reported in writing to Rollerworld management within 7 working days
  3. By attending Rollerworld, you agree to be photographed and/or filmed and give permission to use your likeness in promotional and/or marketing materials

What are Rollerworld Events?

The team behind Rollerworld run all-day roller skating experiences at Charter Hall, Colchester. 

Expect high-energy music, lighting, competitions, themed fun and sessions for every age group. 

January’s SuperRoll event’s theme is a celebration of Sports, so dress to represent your favourite team or sport!

The them of April’s Eggstravaganza is all things easter. 

Our events support The Rollerworld Foundation (RWF) and our mission to bring a brand-new skating venue back to Essex.

Where are Rollerworld’s events held?

Charter Hall, Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, CO1 1YH.

Part of the Leisure World complex, with good transport links and on-site parking.

What are the Session Times?

Rollerworld’s events usuall run across three sessions:

  • Relaxed Session: 11:00 – 12:00
  • Family Day Skate: 12:00 – 17:00
  • Over-14s Evening Roller Disco: 19:00 – 23:30

The venue resets between 17:00 – 19:00 and the skating halls will be closed during this time.

Who can attend?

  • Relaxed Session: All ages (under-14s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian 18+)
  • Family Session: All ages (under-14s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian 18+)
  • Evening Session: Over-14s only

What is the Relaxed Session?

A calmer, sensory-friendly hour featuring:

  • No flashing lights
  • Lower sound levels
  • A safe space for new or nervous skaters
  • Wheelchair users welcome during this session

Note: Wheelchairs cannot remain on the skating floor after 12:00.

Tickets for the Relaxed Session also give you entry to the Afternoon session as well. 

Can beginners join?

Absolutely! All Rollerworld events welcome skaters of all abilities. We usually have a beginners area where beginners can practice until they feel confident enough to join the main rink.

Staff, stewards and coaches are on hand to help throughout the day.

Is skate hire available?

Yes — skate hire is available but must be pre-booked in advance of the event. As this is a pop-up event, our volunteers need to load up our skates from storage and bring them to the venue ahead of time. With limited van space, we cannot bring every skate in all sizes.

We have Quad and Inline skates available. Please state which you prefer when you book your skate hire online. 

If you need skate hire, make sure to book select this option when you buy your ticket. Remember to confirm the sizes you need for every member of your group who needs skates.

Book early to avoid disappointment, it sells out quickly!

Important – Junior Skate Hire

  • For junior size 11 and under, children use adjustable skates.
  • These require trainers to be worn as well. 
  • Without trainers, adjustable skates cannot be provided.
  • No sandals, wellies, crocs or other unsuitable footwear.

Can I bring my own Skates to Rollerworld events?

Of course! Bringing your own skates is welcomed. They will be checked on entry to ensure they are suitable for the floor and will not cause a hazard.

Do spectators need a ticket?

Yes. Anyone entering the venue who is not skating requires a spectator ticket. After selecting how many skating tickets you wish to buy, spectator tickets will be available on the next step of the form. 

Rollerworld events at Charter Hall uses the main sports hall, with some seats allowing space to watch and enjoy the atmosphere. We usually also have a second hall with additional seating.

Food & Drink

  • Hot dogs, snacks and refreshments are available from the Rollerworld area.
  • Rollerworld accepts both cash and card.
  • Charter Hall bar is card-only.

Parking

Parking is available in the Leisure World car park (approx. 400 spaces).

Payment is via MiPermit (location code 737941).

Arrive early during busy sessions.

Are tickets available on the door?

Only if the event has not sold out.

Advance booking is strongly recommended for the best prices and guaranteed skate hire. 

If buying tickets at the door, we cannot guarantee skates will be available to hire in the size you require. 

Refund Policy

Refunds and changes are subject to the terms displayed on the ticket page.

Typically includes:

  • Non-transferable tickets
  • Refunds up to a specified cut-off date
  • Possible name-change options before cut-off
  • Always check the live T&Cs before booking.

Security Policy

  1. As part of our commitment to keeping customers and our staff safe, Rollerworld conducts security searches on anyone entering the venue.
  2. Our security team will search all bags as part of our entry code.
  3. Customers will also be subject to a personal search by our security team.
  4. Refusal of a bag or personal search will result in denial of entry to our venue.
  5. No food or liquids of any kind are permitted to be brought into Rollerworld from outside. We have a café where refreshments can be bought.
  6. No Chewing gum anywhere inside Rollerworld.
  7. No bags larger than the size of Rollerworld’s lockers are allowed in the venue.
  8. All under 14’s must be accompanied by a parent, carer or guardian over the age of 18 in all sessions. Additionally, on Relaxed sessions, all under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent, carer or guardian over the age of 18.

Carers

  1. To apply for a Carer Pass you will need the following items:
    1. Filled in & signed Rollerworld Carer Waiver (available from reception)
    2. A valid Carer Certificate issued by Colchester Borough Council or Department for Work and Pensions.
    3. A form of Photographic Identification (Passport, Photocard Drivers Licence or National Identity Card)
  2. The pass gives you free entry to the venue to:
    1. Spectate during skating sessions while caring.
    2. If the person you’re caring for needs assistance on the rink we will provide a skating ticket. Please message us if you require skate hire so we can ensure we will have skates in your size on the day.
  3. Please note that carers are not permitted to walk on the rink other than during the specific Relaxed Sessions.
  4. If you are coming to Rollerworld and you do not wish to apply for a card, we will still need to check your Carer Certificate, Photo ID and a Carer waiver will need to be filled in on entry.

Lessons

 
  1. We will not be offering dedicated lessons, but our volunteers are happy to answer questions or give you tips if it is your first time skating. 
  2. There will be a separate beginners rink for new skaters to practice and to build confidence if you are not feeling ready to skate on the main rink. 

Tickets & Fees

  1. Entry is not permitted without an online ticket or paying at the door.
  2. You will receive a QR code on your online booking confirmation, this must be ready to scan on entry.
  3. Tickets cannot be re-sold to a 3rd party.
  4. For tickets paid at the door, there is an additional walk-in fee which is added to each ticket.
  5. Tickets can be paid in Cash or Card
  6. Any spectators or non-participating visitors, including, but not limited to parents, guardians and friends will need to purchase a spectator/entry ticket to enter.

Cancellations & Refunds

  1. For all bookings at least 48 hours notice must be given by email to receive a refund unless specified otherwise on the booking.
  2. No refunds will be provided if notice is not given by either email or through our contact form.
  3. Games on the rink may require non-participants to temporarily exit the rink until the game is over; no refunds or discounts will be given in the event this happens.
